Steve Edge

Born in England, Steve Edge arrived in Canada in 1981 and in 1987, founded, with other musicians, The Rogue Folk Club, after he had started a Folk Music radio show on the UBC campus network. Expo 86 had demonstrated to Steve, the wealth of Canadian Folk music across the country. These musicians deserved broader exposure after Expo closed, which encouraged him to create the Rogue Folk Club. Under Steve’s leadership, it started at the Savoy in Gastown and eventually moved to the WISE hall in East Vancouver until 2003 when it moved to Kitsilano’s St. James Hall, becoming Rogue Central. These venues, as well as others such as the Chan Centre and CBC, over a period of 28 years, have afforded local audiences, much enjoyment provided by thousands of Canadian and international performers in a wonderful variety of acoustic folk, celtic, roots and blues music, in effect, produced by Steve, forming a high quality, year-round folk festival in the City of Vancouver. As founding members of the Folk Alliance International, Steve and the Rogue present workshops and conferences, show-casing the joy of folk music. Steve appears regularly on radio, travels the Province, appearing at other Festivals, and publishes a weekly promotional newsletter. As a registered society the Board of the Rogue presents 60 Concerts and dozens of other presentations as Outreach to other communities in the Province, featuring local performers. Through Steve’s initiative, the Rogue has become a vital part of BC’s vibrant entertainment scene.
