Come Celebrate Lloyd Arntzen’s Induction with Us
On November 22 at 8 pm we will be honouring legendary Jazz musician Lloyd Arntzen at the Tangent Cafe on Commercial Drive. Lloyd is a true pioneer of BC Jazz Music, so please join us next Thursday for his induction into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame as a 2018 Musical Pioneer.
Here’s a short bio of his talent & accomplishments:
Lloyd Arntzen is a clarinetist, vocalist, soprano saxophonist, arranger, bandleader, composer and music director. Born in Saskatchewan in 1927, he moved to Vancouver in 1946 where he attended UBC Theatre. In the 1950’s Lloyd helped establish The Jazz Band Society, which led to the formation of several bands playing New Orleans Jazz in the city. He performed on several CBC radio broadcasts including The Songs They Sang, The Max Ferguson Show and Sing Out With Me (15 years). His awards include: Best Traditional Jazz album of the Year (Canadian Music Awards), Conservator of Jazz – White Rock Traditional Jazz Society, and Outstanding Honorary Alumni Award – Vancouver Community College. Lloyd continues to be active with the Dixieland Express (Victoria), The Three Generations of Jazz and Blackstick.
