BC Entertainment Hall of Fame Announces New Nomination Criteria
The BC Entertainment Hall of Fame (BCEHOF) has announced a new nomination assessment matrix that has been developed for new and potential StarWalk and StarMeritus inductees.
A committee of Board members with a strong performing arts background in the fields of Theatre, Film & Television, Dance and the Entertainment Business was formed to review the process. The group presented their conclusions and decision to the entire Board of Directors at a meeting on April 4, 2022 where they were adopted.
New Nomination Criteria
All applicants are adjudicated by a nominating panel using the following matrix as a guideline, with points assigned under each of the following sections:
- Artistic Accomplishments
- Contribution to BC
- National or International Recognition and Public Profile During Career
- Industry Profile During Career
- Awards and Nominations Received
- Training or Education
Nomination Process:
- Artists should continue to be nominated by a formal application from other performing arts professionals or the public
- The Board may recommend an artist but must follow the application guidelines
- Under special circumstances, the Board may also recommend awarding a Star to an entertainment business leader.
- The application fee will be $100.00. A nomination from the whole Board does not apply.
- The $500.00 fee for a Star will be eliminated
StarWalk and StarMeritus Categories will include:
- Performers: Music (Classical and Pop); Theatre; Film; Television; and Dance.
- Entertainment Business Leaders: Director; Producer; Manager; Impresario/Promoter
- StarMeritus: Music (Classical and Pop); Theatre; Film; Television; Dance along with Entertainment Business Leaders in the categories of Director; Producer; Manager; and Impresario/Promoter.
The opening of nominations for 2022 induction candidates will be announced at a later date this summer.
“The inductions committee and board tweaked our nominations criteria to better recognize celebrity and career achievement,” says President Bill Allman. “Foremost in our mind was inspiring those who might be hearing false messages about entertainment not being a “worthy” career or being just a passing fancy. Both with our celebrity stars and our industry builder Starmeritus awards, we want to send a really strong message that you CAN make it and here are people who have!”
The BCEHOF is divided into two prestigious categories: StarWalk Stars and StarMeritus Stars. StarWalk Stars recognize high profile artists in the entertainment industry and StarMeritus Stars are reserved for pioneers of the industry receiving special merit for their outstanding contribution to the performing arts in British Columbia. All 300+ inductees have enhanced the province’s cultural profile both locally and on the world stage.
StarWalk members are featured on the Granville Street sidewalk in downtown Vancouver and on the StarWall photo gallery in the Orpheum lobby. StarMeritus members, previously known as “Pioneers”, are acknowledged with brass plaques on display in the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame gallery at the Orpheum Theatre.
