Beloved Performing Artist Joy Coghill Passes Away at 90

Joy-Coghill

As the curtain falls for the last time on Humanitarian, Performing Arts Legend and Starwalk Inductee Joy Coghill, we reflect on a career spanning 7 decades and her indelible mark in Canadian Theatre.

“Joy’s passing is a great loss. She had an amazing, wonderful run during which uncountable numbers of us received the benefit of her knowledge, wisdom, joie de vivre and care. I knew her as my teacher and as my employer, as a director, artistic director and mentor and as a valued and esteemed colleague, an elder statesperson. Her influence was profound in the theatre world of British Columbia and Vancouver but spread across Canada in different roles, with the Canada Council for the Arts and the National Theatre School, for example. And I think I know somewhat less than half of what Joy did” – Rae Ackerman, BC Entertainment Hall of Fame Board Executive Member & Starwalk Inductee
