

Vancouver radio personality and singer Julie Brown was first heard on air at Vancouver’s CKWX/CJAZ radio, her rich tones brought newscasts and interviews to life with intelligence, articulation, confidence, and wit.
In later podcasts, she proved herself a skilled storyteller, captivating listeners with her narrative flair. Julie’s musical talent extends beyond speaking; she has sung with the Hot Mammas, delivering performances that are sultry, soulful, and playful. She also contributes creatively by arranging many of the Mammas’ musical numbers and writing original music.
In her more than two decades as a broadcaster, Brown interviewed hundreds of people, including Bob Hope, Paul Newman, Shirley MacLaine, Johnny Depp, Leonard Cohen, Eartha Kitt, Sarah McLachlan, Neil Diamond, Buffy Sainte-Marie, François Truffaut, Jackie Collins, Jim Byrnes, Rick Hansen and Dee Lippingwell.
At her core, Julie embodies compassion and generosity. She empowers her family and friends to be their best selves, often acting as a guiding “mamma” to many. Even while courageously battling serious health challenges, she continues to uplift those around her. Since the early days of COVID-19, Julie has hosted daily themed music-sharing sessions on her Facebook page, creating a sense of joy, community, and connection for all who participate.
Diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in April 2024, she decided make a difference. Julie’s dream, “Concert for PROJECT HOPE” was held in October of 2024 at Christ Church Cathedral with 100% of the proceeds go to The ALS Society of BC’s PROJECT HOPE.
