Kenny Colman
Kenny Colman’s unique talents as a jazz vocalist have been widely praised by everyone from the New Yorker to the late dean of American jazz critics, Leonard Feather. His list of admirers include the Grammy-winning producer David Foster, producer/composer Johnny Mandel and his long-time friend and mentor, the late Frank Sinatra. Kenny was a fixture on the international club circuit from Monte Carlo to New York’s famed Tavern on the Green. Colman’s recordings include the critically acclaimed Dreamscape, a classic collection of ballads recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and backed by such talents as composer Johnny Mandel and harmonica legend Toots Thielmans. One of the highlights of that period was performing with the 60-piece James Last Orchestra in front of five thousand Dutch fans. The success of the CD had Kenny recording another CD, Straight Ahead, a swinging tribute to his nightclub roots. One of the last of the true saloon crooners, Kenny performed at The Cave, Isy’s, Rossini’s, numerous Vancouver International Jazz Festivals, opened at the Hyatt’s Black and Red Ball for Frankie Laine and opened for comedian Don Rickles at the River Rock Lounge. Kenny, who made his home in Vancouver with his beloved Lily, was born in Winnipeg and passed away in August, 2017.
