Danny Filippone is the owner of one of the longest-running businesses in Vancouver, and the torchbearer of The Penthouse Nightclub and the Filippone family legacy. Born in an era of bottle clubs and bootlegging, the Penthouse Nightclub began as an after-hours for visiting entertainers and Vancouver socialites before transforming into a supper club in the 1950’s, then a burlesque theatre in the 1960’s and 70’s. The Penthouse has been a fixture on Seymour Street since brothers Joe, Ross, Mickey and Jimmy Filippone officially opened its doors in 1947. Since taking over in recent decades Danny rebuffed property developers, created a friendlier environment, and promoted the club’s historical importance.
