Michael J. Fox
Michael J. Fox is one of Canada’s most celebrated film and television actors. Born in Edmonton and raised in BC, the Burnaby native got his acting start early and had a string of impressive roles in various productions, including the CBC’s TV sitcom, Leo and Me, the Arts Club Theatre’s Shadow Box and the film, Letters from Frank, which ultimately prompted his move to the US. Fox rose to international fame as Alex P. Keaton on the TV show, Family Ties and as the lead in the popular Back to the Future films and subsequent TV series, Spin City. In 2000, he stepped back to launch the internationally acclaimed Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Since then, Fox has continued to lend his voice to a variety of animated film productions and guest-starred on such TV shows as Scrubs, Boston Legal and The Good Wife. He also is the best-selling author of three books.
In addition to dozens of prestigious nominations and honours, Fox has taken home multiple Primetime Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors’ Guild Awards; he also has a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. The recipient of four Honourary Doctorate degrees, Fox was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2000 and appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2010.
