Peter Haworth
Peter Haworth began his career in the 1940s as an actor in Vancouver Little Theatre’s production of Candida during the Dominion Drama Festival period. In the early 50’s he taught drama for five years in a high school in North Vancouver, at the same time working with two of the earliest professional theatre companies in Vancouver – the Everyman and the Freddy Wood. When he was forced to turn down an offer from Stratford Festival due to the time constraints of his job, he left teaching and went to England. There he met Tyrone Guthrie who offered him roles in Stratford’s third season. When Peter finally returned to Vancouver in 1956, he worked extensively in radio drama which was flourishing at the time. His stage career also blossomed and since then he has performed in various theatres across the country. In addition to working in television and film, he has played over 30 roles with The Playhouse. Early in the 1960’s he started writing scripts for radio and television, producing over 100 scripts for CBC radio and television alone including many programs for the well-known series “Ideas”. His most recent stage appearance was in The Playhouse’s An Ideal Husband and he will be in The Ginko Tree at the Arts Club this season. Favourite roles include a recent staged reading of Richard II, George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, and the title role in Uncle Vanya at the Arts Club
