Valley Hennell

Since 1968 Valley Hennell has been a mainstay of the BC arts scene, as writer, producer, artist manager, music publisher and arts advocate. Over half a century she has produced a dozen albums honoured with 4 Juno nominations and Parents’ Choice, NAPPA Gold, WCMA and Canadian Folk Music awards. She has managed and produced the careers of artists including Ann Mortifee and Rick Scott, collaborating as a co-writer.

She has produced countless seminal arts events and series; written for stage, page, media and television; developed and toured two inter-cultural projects with Hong Kong artists; produced a dozen Pied Pumkin Canadian Reunion tours and seven Rick Scott tours of Southeast Asia and Australia. She has edited books on Down syndrome, gardening and aquaponic farming. She has served as an award winning broadcaster for CBC Radio; a keynote presenter at educational conferences in Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore; Director of Communications for the Vancouver Children’s Festival; creative consultant to three Pavilions at Expo 86 and as advisor, cheerleader and mentor to many young artists and administrators. An ardent advocate for artists’ rights, she serves on many juries and advisories and throughout her half century involvement in the evolution of the BC music industry has been a strong vocal advocate for artists’ rights.
