Jane Heyman
Jane has worked in professional theatre in Canada and England as a director, stage manager, actor and teacher for nearly 40 years. She was Artistic Director at Holiday Theatre, Vancouver; Assistant Director at the Midlands Arts Theatre Company in Birmingham, England and an Associate Director with Vancouver’s New Play Centre. In 1991 she received the Jessie Richard Award for Outstanding Direction and since 1985 has taught at Studio 58, where she is also Associate Director. She has collaborated with Kathryn Shaw for more than 20 years as an educator, director and innovator. She helped found West Coast Actors, the Women in VIEW Festival, Performing Arts Lodges (PAL) Vancouver and has served on the boards of West Coast Actors and VIEW – the Performing Arts Society and represented B.C. on the National Council of CAEA for nine years, serving as National Secretary most of that time. Currently, she is President of PAL Vancouver and represents Vancouver on the National Board of PAL Canada. Jane has received the 2003 UBCP Sam Payne Award for Humanity, Integrity and the Encouragement of Young Talent; the 2003 CAEA Larry McCance Award for outstanding contribution to the Association and the 2004 GVPTA Career Achievement Award.
