James Johnston
James (Jimmy) Johnston, an accomplished actor studied at the renowned American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. In British Columbia, he directed over 50 productions which included many shows for Theatre Under The Stars. He also directed for the Arts Club Theatre, UBC Musical Society and Metro Theatre. The field of musical comedy however was not Johnston’s only interest as he directed two daily TV series entitled “People in Conflict” and “Magistrates Court” for Screen Gems. He performed in numerous Radio and Television shows in Canada and was heard regularly on both NBC and CBS network broadcasts in the United States. Johnston also performed in many broadcasts on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In the early years of television, he appeared on the James Melton “Harvest of Stars” show from Vancouver. As a change of pace in BCs Centennial year, he toured the province for 8 months with “The Barkerville Show” depicting life and vaudevillian entertainment in the gold rush years. As a documentary film maker, he produced and directed documentaries for the BC Government and many charitable foundations. James Johnston is a particularly valuable member of the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame because of his talent and dedication to show business in British Columbia.
