Lloyd Nicholson
A professional musical director, music arranger, pianist, director, and artistic director of musical theatre, Lloyd Nicholson was associated with Studio 58 for more than three decades musical directing The Boy Friend, Guys and Dolls, Pal Joey, Trelawney of the Wells, Cabaret, Hair, and She Loves Me. He also musical directed for the Playhouse Theatre Company where his credits include The Drowsy Chaperone, Oliver!, A Little Night Music, Hello Dolly!, The Music Man, Fiddler On the Roof, Private Lives, and AChorus Line. Other credits include the Arts Club, Chemainus Theatre Festival, Kitsilano Senior Secondary, Theatre Under the Stars and, as Artistic Director, Royal City Music Theatre. Nicholson received a Jessie Award for conducting Peter Pan at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and two Ovation Awards, including one for Lifetime Achievement. Forfilm and television he was in Connie and Carla, The Five People You Meet In Heaven, Harringbone, and The Beachcombers. Lloyd’s uniquely varied activities encompassed stage touring revues for Overture Concerts and devising casino entertainment in Dawson City. His enthusiasm for musical theatre and his incredible knowledge, skills, and talent positively influenced emerging talent in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. He died suddenly in October, 2009.
