Doug Parker
A graduate of U.B.C., Vancouver-born pianist, arranger and conductor Doug Parker started his career in Los Angeles playing with the big bands of Russ Morgan, Ray Anthony and Harry James. All of Vancouver’s famous jazz artists from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s played with Doug Parker. He returned to B.C. in 1957 and began a long and successful career as an arranger and conductor for many CBC radio and television shows including eight years as arranger/conductor for The Irish Rovers television show. His other CBC Vancouver TV productions included Quartet 1960 (which he co-hosted), Twelve for Summer 1966, The Other Cheek 1967 and Some of Those Days 1961-1966. He also maintained his own dance orchestra, arranged for the movies and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and recorded regularly. Doug Parker passed away on December 6, 2008.
