Premier Clarke Helps To Induct the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Maestro Bramwell Tovey
The BC Entertainment Hall of Fame performed two very special inductions into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame to coincide with the 95th anniversary of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Maestro Bramwell Tovey and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra were inducted in front of a crowd of over 2700 people in the Historic Orpheum Theatre.
Guest of honour for the induction was Premier Christy Clark and the induction was conducted by BC Entertainment Hall of Fame President, Rob Haynes and Past President, Councillor Elizabeth Ball.
Maestro Tovey is a Grammy and Juno Award recipient and acknowledged world wide as a conductor, a composer and pianist. Maestro Tovey is entering his fourteenth season with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. As an esteemed guest conductor, he has conducted many of the world’s prestigious orchestras. Maestro Tovey recently received an honorary appointment as an “Officer of the Order of Canada” for his outstanding achievements as a conductor and composer, and for his commitment to promoting new Canadian music.
The next induction of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra was very fitting as they celebrate their 95th Anniversary season. For the first time in the history of the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, a large organization was inducted. “The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has enriched quality of life and culture in British Columbia. As a result of their international tours, numerous recordings and Grammy and Juno awards, they have brought prestige to the City of Vancouver, the Province of British Columbia and Canada.” said Rob Haynes. The VSO reaches out to the community by performing in venues around the lower mainland and Whistler. For 95 years they have contributed to our cultural fabric and the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame was honoured to induct the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
