Bruce Pullan
Bruce Pullan was born in England, and after education as a Choral Scholar at King’s College, Cambridge and New College, Oxford, came to Canada in 1974. In Canada he performed as a singer with most of the Symphony Orchestras and became a successful Choral Conductor. He was appointed Music Director of the Vancouver Bach Choir in 1983 and founded the Vancouver Bach Children’s Chorus, an organization with three hundred singers and nine choirs in 1984. He conducted the major Choral repertoire with the Vancouver Symphony, the C.B.C. Orchestra and sang and conducted with other major Canadian Orchestras. Bruce delivered master classes in Tokyo with the Cantu Plains Festival, in Singapore and in Cleveland with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. He is a regular presenter at the Eton Choral Courses in England and conducted a Festival of Canadian Choirs at Carnegie Hall, New York. He has adjudicated all over North America and Canada and is in demand as a vocal teacher and lecturer. His choirs have undertaken many international tours. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Music at Western Washington University from 1975 to 1993; President of the Vancouver Academy of Music from 1993 to 1997, and Professor and Head of Choral Music at the University of British Columbia from 1999 to 2009 when he retired as Professor Emeritus. In 2008 he was appointed to the Order of Canada.
