Donnelly Rhodes
Donnelly Rhodes was the son of Canadian playwright Anne Henry. Rhodes studied at the Manitoba Theatre Centre and was in the first graduating class of the National Theatre School in Montreal. Since making his professional debut on stage as Stanley Kowalski in Streetcar Named Desire, he has been a regular on episodic television starting in 1955. His appearances on the big screen include movies such as “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “Our Man Flint: dead on target”. He has also appeared in numerous television series such as The Young and the Restless. In 1966, Rhodes appeared as “Red Eagle” in the episode “Pariah” of NBC’s western series The Road West. In 1967, he appeared as “War Cloud”, on the ABC military-western series Custer. Early in his career he was best known to American audiences as the lovestruck escaped convict “Dutch Leitner” on the 1970s soap opera spoof Soap. He was acknowleged for his role as Phillip Chancellor II in The Young and the Restless, which he played from 1974 to 1975. 1975 he starred in the Canadian drama Sidestreet.
In 1984, he played the role of the beleaguered father, Art Foster, in the short-lived TV series Double Trouble. From 1984 to 1989 he played Dr. Grant Roberts in the family adventure series Danger Bay. A noted character actor, he is celebrated for his role as detective Leo Shannon in the TV series, Da Vinci’s Inquest from1998 to 2005. He also played the character Milash in Smallville in 2008. Donnelly most recently starred as Doctor Cottle (“Doc”) on the Sci Fi Channel television program Battlestar Galactica. With well over 100 roles to his credit, he has enjoyed a remarkable career.
